ROSEHIP POWDER BLUSH

This feather-light powder gets its soft, rosy glow from organic rosehips. Easy to make, this recipe uses botanical ingredients that will benefit the skin and delight the senses.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
  • High quality spice grinder, burr coffee grinder or flour mill
  • Fine strainer
INGREDIENTS:
  • 6 Tbsp. rosehips
  • 1-2 tsp. arrowroot powder (more arrowroot mutes the color)
  • 3-5 drops Heart Song Essential Oil Blend or one of your choosing (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. Grind rosehips to a fine powder in a high quality grinder. Without a proper grinder, the powder will be too coarse.
  2. Grind until consistency is a very fine, soft powder, then add arrowroot powder and essential oil and continue to grind until combined.
  3. Strain powder through a fine mesh strainer or tea strainer to remove any remaining large particles.
  4. Store powder in a 2 oz plastic jar with a lid.
TO APPLY:

To help powder adhere well, first apply a moisturizer or a little sweet almond oil to cheeks. For best results, apply blush powder with a makeup brush.

SHELF LIFE AND STORAGE INFORMATION:

Product should last 3-6 months. Botanicals lose color with age and should always be stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct light.

HOMEMADE CREAM EYESHADOW

This creamy eyeshadow goes on smoothly using beeswax, shea butter and jojoba oil for the base. Blend pigment powders to customize your own lush hues.

SUPPLIES:
  • Gloves
  • Apron
  • Dust mask (Though pigments are safe and non-toxic, they can stain clothes and hands. A mask is also helpful to prevent accidental inhalation of powders.)
  • Wax paper
  • Double boiler
COLOR COMBINATION SUGGESTIONS:
  • Cool Pink: orchid, matte white for oil
  • Dusty Rose: orchid, matte white for oil, pinch americana red oxide
  • Warm Brown: brown oxide, pinch americana red oxide
  • Cool Grey: black, matte white for oil, cobalt
  • Soft Teal: matte teal green, matte white for oil
INGREDIENTS:
  • 2 Tbsp. beeswax granules
  • 2 Tbsp. shea butter
  • 1 tsp. jojoba oil, or other carrier oil of choice (see our Carrier Oil Comparison for additional information)
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. glycerin
  • 1 tsp. vitamin E oil
  • 3 Tbsp. of your choice of pigment powders.
INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. First determine your desired colors by scooping small amounts of pigments carefully onto wax paper and stirring to combine.
  2. Once you decide on a color combination, mix together the full 3 tablespoons of pigment on wax paper and set aside.
  3. In a double boiler, combine beeswax and shea butter and heat slowly.
  4. Once melted, remove from heat, add jojoba oil, glycerin and vitamin E oil and stir.
  5. Pour pigment powder(s) from wax paper into cream mixture and stir welluntil fully combined and smooth.
  6. Scoop into desired airtight container to let cool and set for 24 hours.

For best results, wait at least a day before using. Using an eyeshadow brush or Q-tip, gently smooth cream eyeshadow on your eyelids. Blend different colors to create desired look.
